In this reading and workshop, Joy Ladin will use excerpts from her soon-to-be-published books, Once Out of Nature: Selected Essays on the Transformation of Gender, and Family, her eleventh poetry collection, as jumping-off points for understanding the often-bitter conflicts between different ways of doing gender that have become a major front in America's culture wars. We will then practice two techniques that can help us de-escalate and navigate these conflicts: telling our own and listening to others' stories of gender, and identifying and describing what's at stake in conflicts over gender we experience with people in our lives.  RSVP for Zoom link.
